Swift Kick in the Buttes is a small, farm to fork operation serving the local community around the Sutter Buttes.
We are Steven and Sara. We both grew up on farm with parents that were farmers by trade with crops and cattle. Missing the farming lifestyle and concerned about where our food comes from, we decided to purchase a small property and start Swift Kick in the Buttes. Some of our niche ideas for our operation include: being super-efficient with nutrients, carbon, water, and hoof impact to produce nutrient dense food, preserving the beauty of the Sutter Buttes, raising animals in a way that is pleasing to them and promotes their natural behaviors.
We spent a couple years focused on taking classes, reading books, and learning as much as we could about good land management and animal happiness, while we slowly phased in more animals. We studied the animal management practices of Joel Salatin, Gabe Brown, Greg Judy, Allan Savory, Darby Simpson, and many others as a starting point to develop our system. We are continuing to innovate and develop systems just right for our animals and our little piece of the Buttes.
We are now in full production with our sheep. We are developing the farm infrastructure to be able to raise cattle in the next couple years as well. Our eventual goal is to produce enough meat to provide for 100 local families.
